Wild Life
The Country Garden Guest Farm is situated at the foot of the Klein Swartberg mountain in the Klein Karoo. Although the area is now farmland, the original wild inhabitants of this area still roam about and over the years we have had some lucky sightings! For example, not infrequently we have porcupines or Cape clawless otters that run along the leivoor sloot in front of our house putting our farm dogs into a frenzy of excitment. However, after an encounter with these creatures the dogs generally come off second best and more than once they have resulted in trips to the vet. Other wild animals around us which are ever present but rarely seen are klipspringers, duikers, genets, and caracals, not to mention the common tortoises, hares, and mongooses. Below are some pictures of the wild animals, reptiles and creatures that can be spotted on the mountains and hills around us!
